Cindy Bickerton

Remembering back to the start of my career in public relations, I was humbled by all the help I got. Advice such as ‘you have to talk to so & so’ ‘let me arrange for a lunch with abc person’. ‘ can you do this project for me’. People I can never repay. What I can do is pay it forward. I’ve mentored many young PR practitioners, written exams for our accreditations, partaken in panels to younger practitioners who wonder how to move forward.

Life moves on and I now find myself owning a landscaping firm. It was predicted years ago that my marketing, love of plants and people, and my spirituality would come together., Who knew? It has in an incredible way. I don’t talk about the spiritual side of what I do, but it is there. Corporately, it is a triangle of respect between clients, crew and self, with the rocks and plans in the middle.

As I key this, landscaping isn’t providing enough income to sustain me so I’m at a crossroads… scary and exciting at the same time. Wonder that 2017 will include?

However the year unfolds, I’ll forever be most proud of raising two amazing kids. They are each into their own lives now and connect back as they can. A parent’s role is not to spoil kids or be their best friend, but to show them life so they can make it on their own. Tee hee – guess I did ok.

To younger folks, I’d suggest they honour who they are… GIVE to the world and it will be rich and wonderful. TAKE from the world and it will disappoint you.

Living fully, to me, means balancing work, play and self. I tend to serve others and not care for self enough so the balancing act is ongoing for sure!

A fav saying is by Ghandi… be the change you want to see in the world.

I so agree. Cindy is an extraordinary woman: kind and loving with a wonderful sense of humour that hides a deeply perceptive character.
    Bravo Cindy
