Laurie BowenABOUT LAURIE BOWEN

Laurie Bowen is a social worker in Private Practice (Arts For Life Psychotherapy) who utilizes the arts in therapy, education and health care settings.  When her beloved Auntie was locked up in the “last chance long term care facility” in St Catherine’s  in her 90th year, Laurie was heartbroken to see how she had to spend her final year on this earth.  The walls were peeling paint, it was small and dreary just like her gaze had become, and there was NOTHING to do.  When Laurie heard about Montessori methods for Alzheimer’s and Dementia shortly after her Aunt passed away, she immediately signed up for the 3 day training.  It brought hope to know that there is a better way for dementia care so she spent the next year becoming certified through McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont. Laurie‘s hope is to see this philosophy of care used extensively in every long term care facility across this country.  She teaches family members, clients and health care workers how it can be easily implemented and will make an amazing difference in the quality of life for everyone!
