Lesson From A Client: Planning Ahead Makes All The Difference

Going through a major life transition is not an easy thing to experience.  It’s tough.  It’s emotional.  It requires a lot of support and help.

Four and a half years ago, I met an amazing woman who had just turned 89.  She was planning to move in the fall and she wanted some help and guidance.  One of the great things that she did was plan ahead and not wait for a crisis before she had to move.  Sure, she was getting up there in age but she was very active, healthy and could live independently.  She also realized that there would come a time when she would need to move into a retirement residence that provided some of the services that she would require as she continued to move forward in her life.  She was planning ahead.

This week’s video shares some of the things that she and I did to help her plan for her eventual move which took place just a few days ago.  It was peaceful.  It was calm and her entire family participated with joy and grace.

She has a lot to teach us about the benefits of assessing where you are, planning ahead, aging and moving through transition.
