Have you ever wanted to disconnect from the entire world, just for a few minutes, and take some time that belongs only to you?
That is exactly what my joy experiences are about. Small moments, small choices, small pockets of time to be curious, to create, to laugh and to play. They have helped me reconnect with myself in a way I didn’t expect. Sometimes joy isn’t about finding something new. Sometimes it’s about slowing down enough to notice what is already around you.
In this video I bring together a few of my own joy experiences. Watch it, then keep reading for your invitation this week.
What a Joy Experience Really Is
A joy experience is simply being fully present for a short, intentional stretch of time. Yours might be gardening, photography, baking, learning a language, walking by the water, or watching a sunrise or a sunset. It might be something completely different.
It is not about perfection. It is about giving your mind something else to focus on, so you can breathe a little deeper and feel a little lighter.
Four Moments, One Story
Here are a few of the joy experiences I’ve shared with you:
- The keyboard. I sat down at a keyboard again after more than 40 years. I wasn’t trying to become a musician. I wanted to rekindle something I loved as a child. No obligations, no rules, no expectations. Just sit, play and enjoy.
- Twenty minutes of creating. I gave myself 20 minutes to gather my supplies, set up and complete something, purely for the joy of creating.
- A new recipe. Right in my own kitchen, I tried something I’d never made. I didn’t know if it would be a total failure or something we’d love, and that was the point.
- A walk in the forest. Not rushing, not counting steps. Pressing pause on the outside world and feeling grounded. That exhaustion you feel is often your nervous system telling you it’s time to pause.
These four experiences look different, but they tell the same story. Making time for yourself. Creating little pockets of joy that help you smile a little more and feel a little lighter. The lesson for me was simple: not perfection, presence.
Why Small Moments Matter
When life is full, joy is often the first thing we postpone. We tell ourselves we’ll get to it when things settle down. But life rarely settles down on its own. Small moments of joy are how we come back to ourselves in the middle of a full life, not after it.
And they add up. One small choice reminds you that you can make another. Over time, those pockets of joy become a habit, and that habit changes how your days feel.
Your Joy Invitation This Week
Create one joy experience of your own this week. Not mine, yours. Maybe it’s something you’ve always wanted to try. Maybe it’s something you loved years ago. Maybe it’s the thing you keep saying you’ll do when life slows down. Don’t wait.
Give yourself permission to create one little pocket of joy. Just one. It doesn’t matter what it is. What matters is how it makes you feel. Then come tell me about it in the comments on YouTube, because your story might be exactly what another woman needs to hear.
Because at the heart of it all, you matter, and you deserve to live fully with joy in your life. Subscribe to At the Heart of It All with Pierrette on YouTube for a new joy invitation in the videos ahead.
